Our favorite TV show, Run’s House, is being syndicated in Europe. The local networks often translate or even change the show names to appeal to the regional audience. The TV network carrying the show in France has re-titled the show “Ghetto Pasteur”, which according to MediaTakeout means “Ghetto Pastor” in French.
I know MediaTakeOut is a tabloid, so..
1) Could this really be true? Would MTV let this happen?
2) I wouldn’t go as far as to say ALL French people think the Simmons are a “ghetto family”. It’s the French TV network: they know they’re wrong! What were they thinking?

I must say that I think that this is ridiculous. It would be quite embarassing if they are calling the show Ghetto Pastuer. It totally disrespects who I think is one of the best families that have aired on TV. I pray the owner and producers of the show didn’t sell you out for a couple dollars from France. Either way, God Bless You All.

Firstly, this show is broadcast on MTV so they KNOW what they’re doing, selling it like that.
Second, Ghetto in french does not have the same connotation as in the US and it’s not seen as neither disrespectful nor racist. They are blacks in France and I’m one. We love this show and we certainly don’t think anything bad of the Simmons family. Although we do wonder how a “Pastor” can afford to have the lifestyle they do. The show is certainly misleading about his job, especially if you cath the show in its 2nd season and with the ending image of him in his bubble bath writing notes about the lesson of the day/episode.
Finally, in France, besides techtonik dance, the trend is definitely Rap/HipHop so the word ghetto is actually “cool”. Maybe hard to believe but it’s so. I think that before getting offended, you should first acquaint yourself with another country’s culture. 🙂
