Last month, Vanessa Simmons bowed out of the Miss California USA competition citing schedule conflicts which included a movie role. She didn’t give any details, but we’ve recently learned that Chris Stokes‘ hip-hop dance film “Boogie Town” is currently filming, and Vanessa is billed as one of its stars. |
R&B artist and actor Marques Houston stars in the lead role as “Micha”. He and director Chris Stokes last worked together on the 2004 flick “You Got Served”.

The plot is “West Side Story” set in a futuristic hiphop world, where there are no more drugs or violent crime, but dancing is outlawed (not sure why, but I’m sure they explain this). There’s even a police unit that seeks to capture and arrest any dancers caught in the act.
By the year 2015, dancing has gone underground in New York. The secret world is called “Boogie Town” where illegal dance crews stage battles to settle turf and power disputes.
Micha (Marques), leader of the dance crew “The Trojans”, discovers his sister Natalie has become romantically involved with Jay, the head of a rival dance crew called “The Warriors”.
The two leaders, who had once been friends but are now mortal enemies, decide to have a winner-takes-all showdown.
The movie also stars Khleo Thomas and Brenda Song.
Choreographer Shane Sparks (”So You Think You Can Dance”) is orchestrating the dance sets. I’ll be excited to see that in action!
It’s unclear what role Vanessa will be playing. According to IMDB, her character’s name is “Cicely”, so perhaps Brenda Song is playing Natalie, the little sister of Micha.
Boogie Town is set to release in summer 2009.

I have gotta see this movie Brenda song plays dumb,kind,girly, and other types. She is a good actress. I cant wait. I am seeing this the FIRST day it comes out.

i like the idea behind this movie bcuz its gonna b original most dance movies are just the same following the story of a girl how her parents may not like her dancing she has to struggle then reaches her goal
