I think by far, this is my favorite episode, because Angela Simmon’s silliness almost got her into trouble. I mean, this episode isn’t all sugary sweet like the previous ones and we all can actually see the classic ‘big sister lookin out for you’ thing from Vanessa.
Anyway, the story starts when Angela found the best boots EVER on her shopping spree…
Gotta admit the boots are pretty tight. (I love her sunglasses even more though! Anyone know what brand?) Anyway so this boot inspires Angela to get herself an accessory that goes with the boots. Most people would settle for a jacket or a scarf, but Angela goes “whole hog” and thinks she must have a Harley Davidson motorcycle to match.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Simmons is across town, in a meeting with the producers of “Speed Dating”.
Now, you might not know that “Speed Dating” is actually in production. It’s a comedy which will star Wesley Jonathan, Kelly Perine, Camille Mana and Chingy. I just found out myself! That’s very good news to Vanessa Simmons fans, because that means we’ll see her quite a lot in 2009.
First, Daddy’s Girls, and then there’s her upcoming movie “Boogie Town”, and now this “Speed Dating” thing. I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for more info! So anyway, Vanessa needs to go on an actual speed dating process in the name of research for her character. Angela and Jessica refused to go with her, so she was kinda bummed out.
And so she asked Alycia who also tried to get out of it, unsuccessfully. She gave in, but not before their dinner was interrupted by two biker chicks aka Angela and cousin Jessica.
Ang and Jess are getting serious about the whole motorcycle thing. They’re really getting into character. But Vanessa isn’t too crazy about the idea of her sister riding a motorcycle.
That didn’t stop Angela from going to the Harley Davidson showroom the next day. She and Jessica decided that brochures weren’t enough anymore.
As Angela gets really into her new motorcycle thing, Vanessa went to her speed dating gig with Alycia and Lynn, their mutual friend. Vanessa went as “Elizabeth”, her character in the movie. I thought people would recognize her, but nope.
Vanessa didn’t seem to enjoy the experience very much, especially when a potential speed dater asked her: “How far would you go on the first date?”. (Heavy SIGH from the audience: Is this for real or was that guy planted? Come on now MTV don’t play with me.)
Yep, that’s her signaling his percentage on “scoring” with her. Good girl. Alycia didn’t seem to have such a great time, either.
She kinda looked tortured to me. But Lynn, as the girls predicted, seemed to be having a blast.
Speaking of Lynn, what do you think about this girl? I think she should make more appearances in Daddy’s Girls. Her flirty character would be a nice touch.
Meanwhile back at Rev. Run’s home, Vanessa and Angela’s mother, Valerie, visits Rev. Run and stepmom Justine.
Vanessa ratted out Ang, and told Valerie that homegirl was seriously thinking to purchase a motorbike. Rev. Run was quite surprised and kinda appalled at the news, and even JoJo gave it a thumbs down.
But stepmom Justine says that Angela might only be “going through a phase” because she experienced the same thing when she was Angela’s age.
Well anyway, the next day, Angela returned to the showroom, more than ready to lay down her credit card for a ‘cycle, when a familiar face appeared…
Angela was dumbfounded. And BUSTED.
Yea, I’d be jaw-dropped too if my dad showed up just like that from 5000 miles away. So dad Rev. Run took the girls to lunch and tried talking some sense into Angela.
My favorite part was when Rev. Run said, “If Bonnie’s father would’ve told her not to hang out with Clyde, they would not have robbed banks and ended the way they ended.” I guess it worked, because Ang backed out of buying the Harley, and settled for her bad girl biker clothing.
There’s always a lesson in every Daddy’s Girl episode. The moral of this week’s story is how important it is to look after your siblings, even if it means breaking the code of silence and ratting them out when they’re about to do something dumb. No one will look out for you the way the family will.
By the way, I’m dying to know what headphone Angela was wearing in the end of the episode. Do you guys know where to get it? Is it one of them SkullCandy headphones? I really think it’s cuuuuteee! Most importantly, I think it will match my Pastry Shoes.
