Run DMC Will Not Perform For Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Induction

As you might have read here before, Vanessa and Angela Simmons’ dad, Rev. Run and his legendary rap group “Run DMC” is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend.  Run DMC is the first hip hop group to ever be inducted, and they will walk into the Hall of Fame with other rock and roll icons such as Metallica and Bobby Womack.  Aside from being the first inductee coming from hip hop, Run DMC would also be the first who would not perform in the glorious ocassion.  Rev. Run told MTV News:

“For me, I tell people, ‘Do you want to see me and Run running around without Jay?  They tell me I could get Grandmaster Flash [to fill in].  But I can get any DJ in the world if I want.  It wouldn’t be right.  I can’t replace my drummer.”

DJ Jam Master Jay was shot to death in his recording studio on October 30th, 2002.  Rev. Run and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels decided never to perform again as Run DMC out of respect for their dearly departed friend.

So what can we all expect in the event?  Well, they will be there (and I’m hoping Rev. Run shows up with the entire Simmons clan) and MTV News said there’s gonna be a video tribute dedicated to the trio.  Rev. Run and DMC will also be delivering their speech (which made DMC a bit nervous, LOL).

And speaking of videos, here’s a classic Run DMC video for their song, titled “Walk This Way”, which features the legendary rock band “Aerosmith” and marks the rap trio’s daring crossover in mixing Aerosmith’s rock music with their signature hip hop style.  More and more rap artists collaborated with musicians outside the hip hop genre after this legendary mix.  This song also brought back Aerosmith into the music scene.  Call your, aunts, uncles,  moms and dads as you play this, and watch them move to the old skool beat.
